Unique and Stylish

We had an absolutely amazing stay at the Lafayette Hotel! The vibe and atmosphere were so welcoming and unique—it's far from your typical family-oriented hotel. Although it's not specifically tailored for kids, the staff went above and beyond to make sure our daughters had a wonderful experience. They were incredibly kind and accommodating, making us feel at home the entire time.
One example of their outstanding service: when our daughter accidentally left her favorite stuffed animal, "Sophie," behind, we were in full panic mode. But the hotel staff quickly contacted us and shipped it back to us within two days—talk about going the extra mile!
We can't recommend the Lafayette Hotel enough. From the exceptional staff to the stylish atmosphere, this place truly stands out. 1000/10—can't wait to stay again!

Great hotel, such a fun experience to stay there. Only complaint is no room service?? And the water gets hot FAST. But besides that. Insane hotel. We loved staying there. We barely left the hotel all weekend because there is so much to do! Worth all the money.

Worst money I’ve ever spent

My boyfriend and I stayed two nights to celebrate our anniversary/my birthday; This was not my first experience at the Lafayette but it most definitely is going to be my last. To be fair, I’ve mainly had all bad experiences here but once, all due to the staff interactions may I strongly add, as I’m learning quickly that it’s incredibly rare to get a kind spirited, common courtesy driven staff member here. Granted we had a few pleasant staff interactions, at MOST, four incredibly kind and considerate helpful staff members, other than that it, was very obvious we were an inconvenience to them and that they’d rather be anywhere else. I’m also incredibly disappointed to find there’s very little exclusivity included in being an actual guest at this hotel. EVERYTHING is open and taken over by the general public almost immediately, leaving the only thing for you to do is hide out in your room away from the chaos of entitled social media addicts and single creeps on the prowl. The room was surprisingly dusty, heavy cobwebs throughout the curtain rod of the window, and a used eyelash on the floor of the bathroom upon first look.
We went Saturday morning to get breakfast around 10AM at the Beginners Diner downstairs; which was not very busy at this hour as we are sat immediately and the restaurant is still fairly empty. The waitress we had for the first half of our breakfast did not say anything to us other than getting annoyed that she’d brought out waters when we’d already been given some, and simply to ask what we’d like to order. Our orders and even questions were answered w a silent inconvenient nod, up until the second half of our meal where she’d disappeared without a word and was replaced with a much more pleasant and considerate waitress.
Later that day we decided to hang by the pool that was mostly stocked up w people saving chairs for friends that coincidentally never showed up, leaving us on the floor w a towel. This was slightly made up for being greeted by the sweetest most helpful pool waitress who seemed enthusiastic and happy to interact with the guests and make our day easier, the ONLY one we’d managed to come across in the two hours by the pool might I add.
Later this night, my friends join us to celebrate my birthday down in the main lobby bar, as The Gutter we’d planned to attend is currently packed back to back with far over what seems like a normal safe capacity. We wait around 30-40 minutes for each round, sitting at two of the tables facing the diner windows, backs against the bar. My friend ordering a drink at the bar was told to “stop yelling at me” by the bar tender as she attempted simply to be heard over the blaring music and overwhelming volume of the people around, I’d like to note I’ve been given this reaction several times at this bar as well so this is obviously a common response. We finally get our first round and a single sip into our drinks, a friend of mine would like to share their drink with me, so I lean over the table to grab the cup and am surprised as my hair is set on fire by the open flame disguised as a table lamp. It’s quickly slapped my hair and put out and ONLY my friends are making sure I’m okay, I’m indeed unharmed and only lost a good chunk of my hair and a pretty damn good scare. My friend who happened to be at the bar getting drinks when this happened, over heard the bartender they were being helped by, in a backwards black hat with short black hair and the facial piercing, saying "stupid bitches over there setting their hair on fire." 20-30 minutes goes by and the same bartender quickly made their way towards us and aggressively blows both table lamps out that we were sat by and rips them from our tables without saying a word and walks away….. everyone at both our tables is immediately so stunned by this response we then decided to make our way back towards my room and spend the rest of the night there as I now feel made as the problem/burden.
The majority of the staff here radiates hateful and negative energy as they make it apparent that they hate everyone in the room not discluding the people actually paying to stay. This place is surviving solely on aesthetics and the social media rotted teens/young adults who come spend a few hours pretending to enjoy the place in pictures just to leave, as the general energy outside of decor is very dark and disheartening, resulting it down to the equivalent of an empty marketing shell made into aesthetically pleasing influencer set for social media fiends, neglecting any actual costumer service quality.

Amazing retro hidden gem in the heart of San Diego

This hotel is amazing. It is a beautiful, retro hidden gem in the middle of San Diego. My husband and I came for a Valentine’s Day getaway and had a wonderful time. Literally every staff member we encountered was crazy nice-from valet to concierge to the bartenders and servers. The bar is effing beautiful and the drinks are amazing. The bartender was very cool and made amazing drinks. I was skeptical about a brandy drink because I only usually drink super sweet drinks and he said “it’s kind of hard to describe, kind of like a paper airplane meets a margarita”. I don’t know how he did that but that was 100% accurate. The room was so cool and the room bar was very well stocked. The bed was comfy and the bathroom was beautiful. We were above Lou Lou’s night club, so the music was a little loud in the room but the music was also super cool so I didn’t mind it much. Breakfast at the diner was superb. Had the buckwheat pancakes and had to fight not to finish them. The server told us to go on a little hunt to find the giant chess board, which we did and loved it. Literally everything in this place is designed with intention and beauty. Will 100% return (next time to a pool room in the summer).
