Hernan the owner is an absolute gem. He provided an excellent introduction to the area and gave us a bottle of champagne to ring in the new year.
Keep in mind, this is an apartment, not a fancy hotel. The room had everything you need, the sheet are clean etc... but expect some wear-and-tear and the need to fidget with the showers.
Also, the place is only five minutes from fun bars, restaurants and night life.

I cannot comment much on many aspects of this property because I was never able to check in. The reservation for a twin room was made months ago with a confirmation from Hotels.com, but after a sweaty hike up the steep road to the hotel, I was told my reservation has been cancelled. I tried to explain that while I cancelled an earlier reservation made through expedia, I have subsequently booked the room again through hotels.com. I showed he manager (who did not speak any English and we had to communicate through google translate) the confirmation, but he insisted that my reservation has been cancelled. Nevertheless, he did try to help me find alternative accommodation, but what he offered was either too far away (in Vina del Mar), or not well located. I ended up using the property 's wifi to book a room in a nearby hostel. I think the manager was really trying to help resolve the problem, but the problem should not have occurred in the first place, and I think he still did not realized that he had made a mistake. （Please disregard the scores on room cleanliness and comfort, as I have no opportunity to observe.)

So friendly

Really nice beds, comfortable, clean and warm in winter! Such a lovely friendly man the owner is. He couldn't have done more for us. The area is quite safe compared to some areas of Valpariso which can be quite dangerous. Ask the owner and he will advise you where to avoid.

Hot water run out haft way through the shower. Manager was helpful but can't communicate with him because he doesn't speak English.

Just a little up the hill

We found this a fine location only just up the hill out of the main city and fairly easily walked. We ventured to most of Valparaiso on foot from here. Good restaurants and lively bars are all a short walk away, including a very good vegetarian restaurant. Also the supermercado is walking distance as well as fruit and veg shops and bread and cake shops, as it is self catering
The apartments are fairly basic but comfortable. Good beds, hot showers, heating for the cool nights in September. Parking is available at a small extra cost. The owner was keen to help us and provides maps
