Highly recommended

Highly recommend this park to anyone.
Sue the manager couldn’t help us enough. We have quite a big rig, so she showed us all the options and we finally came to a compromise.
Thank you for helping us out.

I booked my tech here for a week. He wasn't particularly impressed but most of these places are for men working in the mines. It was adequate but he did say the breakfast was cold.

Old and worn.

Dirty, scruffy, place. Very outdated and in good need of a rebuild. Office staff very helpful. Food was available in the "mess' hall. Price was good but the food was disgusting. How the resident eat here daily amazes me. This is a mining camp accommodation and the "locals" parked anywhere including in front of your vehicle.

I regret to read that you did not enjoy your stay. If you could please send me an email with what specifically was 'dirty' that would be useful so I can address it with our managers. Regarding the food, it would also be helpful to get some information on what could be done to improve it and make it more to your liking. Finally, I'm pleased that the managers/office staff were helpful so thank you for that kind feedback. My email is jade@guilmartingroup.com.au

They don't seem to care about their guests, especially the minority who aren't mine workers.

They don't seem to care much about their guests, especially the minority of people who aren't miner workers staying there.
There's two issues I was unhappy about with our stay.
There was no handwash or paper towels in the dispensers in the amenities block. The first day that I mentioned this to the person at reception they said they'd do something about it. A day or two later there was still no handwash or paper towels in the dispensers in either the male or (my partner told me) the female amenities block. When I spoke to the person at reception about this, they kept trying to make it out that I was talking about soap for the showers, but after I got through to them that I was talking about the handwash and paper towels at the handwashing sinks, in the dispensers that they have on the walls there, I was told that *they do not provide handwash or paper towels*.
I was pretty gobsmacked, and they tried to make out that this was somehow normal for caravan parks. The lack of those things made the place pretty unhygienic. People were coming out of toilet stalls and either not even washing their hands or just using some water.
The second thing relates to the fact that this place mainly provides accommodation for mine workers. They don't seem to care much about their other guests. One instance of this was when I was going to one of the camp kitchens to wash my dishes. These don't get used much as most of the mine workers eat at their on-site restaurant. It was early evening and dark and I was carrying a heavy load of dishes. I walk over to the kitchen and it's in darkness. I spend several minutes looking but was not able to find any way to switch the lights on. I suspect they were automatic lights that were broken somehow. So then I had to carry the heavy washing all the way over to the other camp kitchen.
The other case of this was one morning I was going to the toilet and while I'm there a pest control guy came in and was spraying everywhere in the toilet block. As I walked out of the block some of the stuff he had sprayed on the eaves dripped down onto my head and arm.
Presumably because the mine workers are all out of there early in the morning, they don't have set cleaning times for the amenities block. And the management didn't bother closing the block down while the pest control guy was there. And they did know he was spraying there then, as while I was talking to the reception people about the missing handwash the pest control guy came in and they spoke with him. I told him about the spray dripping on me and he just shrugged it off and the reception person didn't say anything or apologise for it happening.

Hi James,
Thanks for submitting your review.
I have checked in with our Managers regarding hand soap, as this is something that we generally supply. They have been putting pump bottles on the benches, however, these are being stolen regularly. We are currently looking in to sourcing some new (working) permanent hand soap dispensers for the wall.
Regarding the camp kitchen, the lighting is actually on our maintenance list to fix at the moment. We are currently awaiting the return of our electrician.
The pest control person was asked to call out and ensure that no one was in the bathrooms before going in there, which he said he did, perhaps you did not hear him. The residue that dripped on your arm was not harmful, as the pest control person advised you when you attended the office. I'm sorry that this happened nonetheless, as it would not have been pleasant.
I would like to close by addressing your review title. We are a family owned park (though with Managers in place), and we do care about all of our guests. We acknowledge that our tourists/travellers have different needs to our workforce, and do our best to support our Managers to meet those needs for all guests. I regret that you felt as though you weren't cared for, and hope you will try us again someday.

If this Park has the best comments of those in Mount Isa, I really don't want to find out what the others are like!!

Out of the 19 places I have stayed on our Big Lap – this is the worst. The facilities must have been built in the 1940's and they look like they haven't been updated since. They are not even that clean.
The Park has a lot of dongas and permanent sites and just the middle area is allocated for caravans. We brought our Big Rig in here and exiting the park was a real hassle. Unfortunately the Park managers allow the donga users to park along the 'roadway' which leaves little room for vans.
There is also some confusion regarding sites. There is inadequate visual markers for the sites. Management state they are going to mark the sites better before the Rodeo in August - but that remains to be seen. There is little evidence of any improvements being made here. One laundry appears to be permanently out of use but at least there is a second laundry with most of the machines in working order.
One positive is that it appears to have less issues with security and thefts than the other Parks in Mount Isa.
I would not recommend this park to anyone.
p.s. this is the first negative rating I have given any caravan park.
